Active Learning Course

12 Days to Deming

NZOQ offers 12 Days to Deming as a free active learning course for people new to the work of Dr. Deming and those with some prior knowledge.

Dr. W. Edwards Deming (1900–1993) influenced modern thinking about quality, management, and organisational improvement. He is particularly known for his work with Japanese industry from 1950 and for the wider attention his ideas received in the West from the 1980s. His work continues to influence quality and management practice.

This free course was created and made available by Dr. Henry Neave. Read more about his remarkable contributions to the Deming philosophy.

Dr. Henry Neave created 12 Days to Deming as a structured introduction to the work and teachings of Dr. Deming. The course challenges established thinking and examines how the principles can be applied to organisational improvement.

Dr. Neave was the W. Edwards Deming Professor of Leadership and Management at Nottingham Trent University Business School in the United Kingdom. He received the ASQ Deming Medal in 2001, is an Honorary Fellow of the Chartered Quality Institute, and wrote The Deming Dimension. He also worked alongside Dr. Deming at many four-day seminars and later conducted seminars internationally.

This was a fantastic course. I couldn't believe how well the whole thing was presented, and it made learning relatively easy. There are plenty of hands-on activities, and some surprising outcomes which challenged some things I thought I understood. The course challenges us to really think, rather than skimming through material and ticking a box, and the reward is a real appreciation of the content, an understanding of Deming's teachings, and an insight into putting them into practice.

I have found that 12 Days to Deming has provided me with not only an effective but also an efficient route to deeper understanding and useful knowledge about Dr. Deming's theories. It accelerates such understanding because it is derived from the direct experience of Professor Henry Neave who can be justifiably termed a Subject-Matter Expert. My work is focused on getting safer work through introducing people to the concept of better work. This is achievable through understanding better the effectiveness of taking an approach to management that is informed by the wisdom of Dr. Deming. 12 Days facilitates this superbly.
